Palasik (also spelled *palasik* or *palasick*) is a creature from Minangkabau (West Sumatran) folklore in Indonesia. It is often described as a type of witch or mythical being who practices black magic and can separate their head from their body, with the head and internal organs flying to hunt for the blood of infants or pregnant women. Stories about palasik are similar to legends of other “flying head” or “vampiric witch” figures found in Southeast Asian cultures, such as the Malay *penanggalan* and the Filipino *manananggal*.
