Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cannabaceae, commonly known for species such as Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis. The plants produce chemical compounds called cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), which are responsible for their psychoactive and medicinal effects. Cannabis is used for recreational, medicinal, and industrial purposes, the latter often referred to as hemp.
